[ interview 01 ]

This interview was wrapped up on April 5th, 2004 for the YJK Index's Story of the Month (March) - which was 'Simply Being Loved' --- thank you to everyone who voted! *hugs*

- What was the first thing you wrote?

The first thing I wrote here was At Least Smile - it was just a random one-shot I posted about a year ago. People thought it was pretty good and it wasn't until six or seven months later I actually jumped into a full story. Now if you want to know the first thing I wrote ever... it was called Swish the Fish -- around first grade. My style hasn't changed much, so if you read my stories you know I'm evil. I was evil then too. This was basically the story.

There was a fish named Swish. He had a friend named Lenny. One day he went to Lenny's house. Their enemy was an electric (electric is spelled wrong in my copy) eel. He burned Lenny's house down. So Swish burned the eel's house down too.

See? I was even evil as a child. :D

- How long have you been writing?

Ever since I wrote Swish the Fish, writing has been one of my hobbies. I've tried my hand at fanfiction, poetry (which is my worst), and of course, original fiction. Which tends to be my favorite. I'm in the middle of a couple crazy pieces right now -- all of which are full of plot twists and insane characters like my fanfictions. Hehe~

- Where do you get your ideas?

Everywhere. The idea for 'Simply Being Loved' actually came from me sitting in an uncomfortable chair. The chair scene was the first scene written, even though it doesn't show up until the middle of the story. And I shaped the story around that. I get my ideas from the weirdest places. O_o

- What do you try to get across in your stories? Any specific theme?

One of my main themes seems to be: "Expect the unexpected." Of course, everyone goes on to expect the unexpected and something completely different happens. *evil grin*

- Any comments about Writer's Block?

It's EVIL. Whenever I get writer's block, I try to focus on writing something completely different. Whether it's a rant, a poem, a songfic or whatever. I just focus on writing something different, it usually spawns ideas for the main project I'm working on... pretty much defeating the writer's block. (For that moment, anyways. Hehe~)

- Do you have any advice for other writers?

Keep writing! Don't get discouraged. And go with your gut feeling, whatever you think would work best for the story. Don't be scared to post it! (As long as it's within the TOS though~!) Heck, if it's not, post it somewhere to get feedback! Feedback, good or bad, will help you and the story. :D

- Why did you start writing?

I love relaying any kind of story and I love getting reactions from people. It's like a way to escape and think about something other then what you go through everyday. Ideas will just pop into my head out of nowhere and whereas other people might draw, paint and so on what popped into their head, I like to write it down and flesh it out into a story.

- Any goals in your writing career?

I would like to take it further. Work on more fanfiction, hopefully finish some of my original work. I just need the time. I'm planning on sending a few things in to magazines and stuff soon, but I'm not sure. That'll be a summer project. ;)

- Which RL (published) authors do you admire?

Matthew Woodring Stover (Heroes Die & Blade of Tyshalle = incredible), William Faulkner, Stephen King, Koushun Takami --- I know there's more. *thinks*

- How often do you write?

Whenever I can. I love to write. So it's like I need to eat/drink, sleep, listen to music and write to stay alive. That's how much I write.

- What do you do when you're not writing?

Wish I was writing. -_- Well, besides that, hehe. I like to work on websites, work on costumes... I'm a video game nerd too (Silent Hill, Galerians, Knight of the Old Republic, Jet Set Radio, etc.) --- I'm pretty much a homebody - but sometimes when I feel up to it, I'll go out with a few friends and do whatever it is we can find to do around our little town.

- What do you hope to do writing-wise in the future?

Get some work published. I have so many ideas in my head that I just want to get thrown out to the world. I would love to get paid for something I love to do.

- After your current fics are finished, what will you do?

Write more! :D I'll probably take a small break. But I'm planning to give 'Simply Being Loved' and it's sequel, 'Urbania's Void' rewrites. Only to fix some things and expand upon things I didn't have time/energy to expand on in the first go around --- it'll be like my final draft. And there is a third story in the works... but I have no idea when that one will even get started. The wait won't be too long.

- What inspired different scenes in Simply Being Loved? Did you use a pre-arranged outline, or did you create the plot twists as you wrote?

I had an outline... I always have basic outlines when I start stories. But as I begin to write, the outlines always get bent out of shape and convoluted, creating many plot twists and insane events to push their ways into the story. I get inspiration for many of the scenes from many different places. The list is huge -- I've been compiling it --- I'll be putting it on the website when it's complete. :D
